CASE 1 – MANAGEMENT AND MONITORING

Precision in irrigation and climate to maximize production

With Wisecrop, Maio Verde was able to transform farm management, combining real-time irrigation data with essential climate information to make well-founded decisions.

The Challenges

Blueberry production demands rigorous control of both irrigation and weather conditions. Before Wisecrop, Maio Verde faced several obstacles:

Every day, the same uncertainty: are we watering too much or too little? With drip irrigation across 8 hectares, there was no way to know whether all zones were receiving water evenly. The brothers relied on scheduled irrigation hours, but that was only theory — they didn't know what was actually happening in the soil.
  • Blueberries are extremely sensitive to the amount of nutrients in the soil. Too much fertilizer burns the roots. Too little compromises production. Without measuring electrical conductivity, it was impossible to know whether they were at the ideal level.

To bloom properly, blueberries need a specific number of hours below 7°C during winter. Without this historical data, it was impossible to:

  • Choose the right varieties for new plantings
  • Predict bloom quality
  • Plan the orchard's future
João and Maria couldn't be in the field 24/7. But without real-time data, every time they left the farm there was that lingering feeling: "I wonder if everything's okay?"
Blueberries aren't an easy crop. We get out-of-season hail, out-of-season frost… These are all challenges the farmer has to manage.

THE SOLUTION

A nervous system for the orchard

Maio Verde implemented an integrated solution that works like a "digital nervous system" for the farm: sensors that sense, controllers that act, and a platform that informs.

Smart irrigation, precise nutrition, and weather as an ally

What they installed:

  • 1 Soil Moisture Probe

  • 1 Electrical Conductivity (EC) Sensor

  • 3 Agronic Controllers

  • 1 Full Weather Station

The Results

-32%

water applied

Maio Verde adjusted irrigation to actual conditions, ultimately applying 32% less water.

6

devices

Continuous monitoring of the farm's soil and microclimate conditions.

100%

remote management

Now it's possible to check the farm's status and take action from anywhere.

I can be somewhere else in the country and remotely know whether the orchards are irrigating, how much water is flowing through the pipes… We know in the moment what we can do better.
