Using Soil Probes
To understand and monitor the ideal conditions for plant development, efficient irrigation management is essential. This is achieved with the help of devices such as probes.
These are placed in strategic locations across the farm and allow continuous measurement of soil temperature, moisture and/or conductivity, and can be positioned at different depths. With probes, it becomes possible to quantify water loss, assess the performance of irrigation programs, and understand how irrigation behaves in the soil type of your sub-plot. This allows us to evaluate, in detail, how water behaves in the soil over time.
What are the models?
There are different types of probes suited to various situations, such as growing in soil or in substrate—whether in pots, bags, or another system. Depending on your situation, you can choose probes that measure at different depths, adjustable to your farm and crop, or you can choose probes that measure at a single depth only. Probes can be designed to measure several parameters, from temperature, soil/substrate moisture and/or electrical conductivity. The type of data obtained through these devices is chosen by the user at the time of purchase, so that the equipment is suited to your crop and objectives.
Key advantages:
- Efficient management of irrigation and water use;
- Increased productivity;
- Reduced nutrient leaching;
